The JV girls softball team traveled to Dansville to open the season against their varsity squad. Northwest Softball is always looking to be challenged and this game was no exception. Our young team faced a talented pitcher in the first game. Despite an 18-2 loss the girls battled hard at the plate. Numerous foul tips showed they didn’t back down. Junior Kyra Jewell and sophomore Lexi Balogh hit solid singles and senior Sierra Weller added a double. Freshman Izzy Rogers and senior Sierra Weller took the mound for the Mounties and logged 3 strikeouts combined.
The second game looked dramatically different with our girls taking an early lead. But the strong hitting by Dansville proved to be too much and the team lost 17-6. Kyra Jewell pitched a consistent 5 innings with two strikeouts. Offensively the girls turned on the pressure. The team was led by Lexi Balogh and Sierra Weller with two singles and one double apiece. Kya Jewell had three singles and Izzy Rogers added a single and a double. Chloe Hinkley, Morgan Sellers, Madison Taylor, and Maddy McPherson(2) hit solid singles. Coaches Szymanski, Caster and Taylor are very proud of the effort and positive attitudes during a challenging first game. The team will be in action again on Thursday, April 15 at Western.
