The girls basketball team advanced to the district finals after defeating Holt 62-48 on Wednesday night. Northwest jumped out to a 25-12 lead after the first quarter. The Mounties were strong defensively, finished in transition, and knocked down big shots throughout the first half to build a 14 point lead at the break. Holt fought back behind 3 point shooting, but the Mounties were able to hold off any run the Rams tried to put together. Layne Sleight was dialed in all night, and finished with 28 points (16 in the first quarter). Mary Crowley finished with 11 and played a strong all around game. Ashley Weller and Megan Swartz added 8 each, and were strong on the defensive end. Mallory Anspaugh was undersized in the paint, but played a fantastic defensive game and was strong on the boards. Anspaugh added 6 points as well. Maddie Nietzke and Olivia Lamb helped the Mounties shut down the Rams offense.
Northwest will battle Mason for the district title on Friday night at 7 PM at Holt High School.
