The varsity girls basketball team improved to 11-3 on the season with a decisive 52-17 victory over Hastings on Tuesday night. the Mounties were rolling out of the gates in this one, as they jumped out to a 14-3 first quarter lead. Northwest was solid on the defensive end and finished well in transition, while extending the lead to 30-9 at the break. The Mounties were determined to play four quarters, and they did just that as they continued to lock down Hastings in the second half. Nine players scored on the evening, lead by Layne Sleight with 18 (16 in the first half). Mallory Anspaugh and Megan Swartz added 7 pts each, while controlling the paint at the defensive end. Swartz was a beast on the offensive glass as well, creating a number of extra possessions for the Mounties. Ashley Weller and Maddie Neitzke added 6 points each, while Mary Crowley scored 3 and dished out some nice assists. Jillian Osterberg and Olivia Lambs scored 2 points a piece, and McKayla Eldred 1.
The Mounties close out the regular season on Thursday as they host the Redhawks of Marshall at 7 PM.
