The Mounties traveled to Cardinal Country only to find themselves in another five game thriller against Coldwater. The match ended with a “W” for the Mounties! The girls dug themselves a little whole in the first game but were able to shift the momentum toward the end and only lost 23-25. They answered back the next two games to a pair of wins only to find themselves trailing in game four. They came out strong in game five and took a 9-4 lead but then let the Cardinals right back in it. The score was tied 13-13 and see-sawed back and forth until the Mounties sealed the deal with a final score 18-16.
Leading the Mounties offensively were seniors Henly Sleight and Mallory Anspaugh with a combined total of 58 kills (Sleight with 36 and Anspaugh with 12). Anspaugh also set a single game record 47 assists on the night. Sophomore Layne Sleight (8) and senior Madison Neitzke (4) combined for 12 aces on the night. Peach Kennedy stepped up big in the final three games. Six of the girls (Mary Crowley, Chloe Cooper, Neitzke, Anspaugh, and the Sleights) combined for 81 digs with Layne Sleight recording 24. All in all, the girls fought to the very end. Coldwater is a great defensive team so we knew we had to keep them out of system, find the energy to sustain a five game series, and believe that we could win…and we did just that! The Mounties are back in action this Saturday as they head to Chelsea for a quad against Vandercook Lake, St. Catherines, and Chelsea.
