The 8th Grade Girls’ Basketball “Black” Team won at Pennfield 27–24 to improve to 4–3 on the season. They trailed the entire game until Dejahnay Graham made a shot with less than 2 minutes remaining to give the Mounties the lead. A minute later, Emily Pizion made a bucket to seal the win. Kyliee Glaspie finished the game with 10 points. Dejahnay Graham ended up with 8 points, Maddy McPherson scored 4 points, Zandria Krasny scored 3 points (her first of the season) and Emily Pizion added 2. Tristin Brown played outstanding defense while Jonteza Hicks, Olivia Wild, and Lucy Polo-Orozco also played very well.
The “Red” Team won 48–12 to improve to 6–1 on the season, setting up a “show-down” next Wednesday at Western where first place in the league standings will be on the line. Ashley Weller and Mara Mitchell paced the Mounties with 18 points each. Samarah Givens added 8 points, Symona Towas scored 4 and Darby DeBacker played her heart out defensively, grabbing many rebounds to help her team out. Amiyah Hakeem and Emma Halle also played very hard.
The girls are on the road for their next game – Wed. 2/19 @ Western – 4:30pm
