The 8th Grade Girls’ Basketball Black Team lost at home to Hastings 23–29 on Monday (2/10). The Mounties jumped out to a quick lead behind 8 first quarter points from Kyliee Glaspie and led 8–6. However, Hastings outscored Northwest 6-13 in the second quarter to lead 14-19 at halftime. The Mounties weren’t able to get any closer than 4 points the rest of the game. Northwest struggled to stop a Hastings player who scored 20 of their 29 points. The Mounties fought hard late in the game with Kyliee Glaspie (NW point guard) on the bench after fouling out, but the Mounties just couldn’t get “over the hump”. Kyliee Glaspie finished the game with 10 points, Dejahnay Graham also scored 10 points and Maddy McPherson added 3. Emily Pizion, Tristin Brown, Jonteza Hicks, Olivia Wild, Lucy Polo-Orozco, and Zandria Krasny all played hard.
The 8th Red Team improved to 5–1 with a 70-15 win at home against Hastings Monday, 2/10. Ashley Weller led in scoring with 41 points (32 of those in the first half). The Mounties jumped out to a 27–4 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back. For the first time all season, all 7 Mounties scored. Mara Mitchell scored 12 points and had numerous assists with great passes to Ashley Weller and others. Darby DeBacker scored 6, Samarah Givens scored 5 and Amiyah Hakeem and Emma Halle each addded 2. Adding to the scoring was Symona Towas, who made her first field goal of the season… YEAH!!!
The Mounties would like extend a heart-felt thanks to Northwest Girls’ Varsity Coach; Ryan Carroll, the Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team and numerous Middle School Staff for attending the games.
