The 7th Grade Girls’ Basketball Teams played host to a pair of tough Marshall squads Wednesday night (2/5).
The B-team went up against the strongest and most aggressive team yet this season. Early on, neither team managed to generate any significant offense as there were many turnovers on both sides due to stifling defense. The score at the end of the 1st quarter was only 2-2. However, the Mounties finally settled down, nabbed some offensive rebounds, turned them into buckets and managed a 10-6 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Mounties worked the ball screens effectively increasing their lead, en route to a 26-16 victory.
The A-team’s game was every bit as intense and aggressive. It was the overall lowest scoring first quarter of the season with the Mounties only up 5-4. Marshall was then shut out offensively in the second quarter and the Mounties never looked back taking a 11-4 half-time lead. Emma Sczykutowicz lit up the offense in the second half with phenomenal shooting and was the game’s leading scorer in the 29-20 victory.
Coach’s award for the games go to Brooke Grant, Kennedy Tapley, Kendra Glaza, Emma Sczykutowicz, Kylee Weed, and Eva Golightly.
Their next game is Mon. 2/10 @ Hastings MS – 4:30pm
