Northwest Kidder Middle School 7 th Grade Boys’ Basketball
“A” Team notched their first win of the season at home against
Battle Creek Pennfield 40 – 27. Northwest led 13 – 9 at the end of
the first quarter and increased the lead to 17 – 9 a few minutes
into the second period. However, Pennfield began to claw back
into the game, with the Mounties clinging to a 20 – 17 lead by
halftime. Pennfield scored the first two baskets of the second
half to take a 21 – 20 lead 4 minutes into the third quarter. – – –
However, Kidder played their best four minutes of basketball all
season, and rattled off 10 unanswered points to close out the
third quarter with a 30 – 21 lead. Jalen Jordan, Kily’An Thomas,
Nathan Moyer, Hudson Cooper, and Kaedin Lillie were on the
floor during this entire 10 – 0 spurt. All five of these young men
made valuable contributions during this stretch, especially on the
defensive end of the floor. Jalen Jordan scored 6 of the 10 third
quarter points and finished with a game-high 22. Kily’An Thomas
drilled a clutch three-pointer and Nathan Moyer added a free
throw in the third quarter. Kaedin Lilly and Hudson Cooper
played hard-nosed interior defense. Tevis Pratt was a force at
both ends of the floor. Pratt scored 5 first period points
(including a three-pointer) to get the Mounties off to a solid start
and grabbed 10+ rebounds during the game. He finished with 9
points. Avery Anspaugh, Drew Clingerman, Kam’Ron Thomas,
Brody Brafford, and Gavin Rush also played important roles
throughout the game.
