The varsity girls basketball team got back on the winning track this weekend, with a pair of wins over Lumen Christi and Marshall. Friday night the Mounties traveled to Lumen, and came away with a 66-20 victory. The Mounties got off to another hot start, led by 11 points to open the game from Sydney Shafer. Mary Crowley added an early 3, and the Mounties lead 23-4 after one quarter. The lead was stretched to 39-6 at the half. Northwest played solid at both ends of the floor, and bounced back nicely after a tough loss on Tuesday. Shafer ended the game with 21 points. Mary Crowley added 11, in her best outing of the season. Morgan Hanchett scored 9, while Anya Hedrich dropped in 7. Jozie Bontrager and Brooklynne Bevier each scored 5. Baileigh Ryan and Mallory Anspaugh rounded out the scoring with 4 each. The win moved Northwest to 9-3 on the year.
The Mounties didnt have much time to rest, as they faced a Saturday morning showdown with conference foe Marshall. After a slow start Northwest evened the score after one at 11-11. Marshall kept things close through three quarters before the Mounties were able to pull away for a 44-35 victory. Morgan Hanchett lead Northwest in scoring with 13 points. Sydney Shafer and Brooklynne Bevier each added 8. Shafer lead the Mounties on the boards with 10 rebounds. Jozie Bontrager once again controlled her opponent in the paint at the defensive end, and scored 5 points. Baileigh Ryan added 5 points, Megan Swartz 4 and Anya Hedrich 2.
The Mounties head to Coldwater on Tuesday night with a record of 10-3, 9-1 in the league. Coldwater is 10-0 in the conference. The varsity tip is set for 7 PM. Your support would be greatly appreciated on this road trip!
