The KMS 7th Grade Boys’ Basketball “A” Team improved to 6 – 3 on the season with a win at Pennfield 61 – 28, thanks to a balanced scoring attack. All nine players dressed for the game scored between 3 and 12 points. Aspen Keyes paced the Mounties with 12 points, followed by Drew Maples with 11, Lincoln Keathley with 9, Garrett Waldron with 7, Jacob Cole and Greg Marquedant with 6 each, Charles Simpkins with 4, and Douglas Putnam and Carter Fairley with three each. Colin Norton (injury) was, once again, on the bench supporting his teammates. All nine players played well. The Mounties led 16 – 6 at the end of the first quarter, 32 – 17 at halftime, and 44 – 25 at the end of the third quarter.
Coach’s Award recipients are Greg Marquedant and Charles Simpkins. – – –Greg impressed his coach at tryouts early with his fundamental basketball skills. Greg is quick, he can shoot, he can handle the basketball under pressure, is a solid passer and can play defense. Greg has been an “anchor” on this team all season with his hustle both during practices and on game nights. Greg is always willing to put his team’s success ahead of his own. – – – Charles is a versatile player who can play on the perimeter as well as in the post. He is blessed with a soft shooting touch and he has the athleticism to go toe-to-toe with anyone defensively. Charles has a great attitude, is fun to be around, and has been a very important asset to his team. He has played a large role in the team’s success up to this point.
