Girls 8th Grade Basketball · 8th Gr. Girls’ Basketball Split with Lumen Christi

The Northwest Middle School 8th Grade Girls’ Basketball Black Team improved to 3 – 4 on the season with a convincing 42 – 24 win at home against Lumen Christi.  It was arguably their best game of the season so far.  The Mounties led 10 – 1, 21 – 5, and 34 – 16 at the end of each of the first three quarters.  The game was never close as nine of eleven players scored.  Julia Warneck and Kenzie Noon each nailed three-pointers.  Coach’s Awards go to Warneck, Noon, Katterina Mierzwa, Madelyn Collins, and Brianna Mohlman.  Warneck and Mierzwa played their most complete games of the season at both ends of the floor.  Noon played tenacious defense.  Collins was a spark plug early in the game, helping her team jump out to a 10 – 1 lead.  Mohlman played fine defense on the press and calmly made her only two free throw attempts.

The Northwest Middle School 8th Grade Girls’ Basketball Red Team lost a “nail-biter” at home to Lumen Christi, 23 – 30.  The Mounties came close to avenging an earlier loss to Christi.  Northwest led 19 – 17 after three quarters as they also played their best basketball of the season to date.  Coach’s Awards go to Abbie Sczykutowicz, Chloe Hinkley, and Savannah Anderson.  Abbie played all thirty-two minutes at point guard and did an outstanding job distributing the ball to her teammates.  Chloe hustled on defense and made some huge shots in the second and third quarters.  Savannah made valuable contributions at both ends of the floor and gave the team a spark late in the game.
