The KMS 8th Grade Black Basketball Team fell to 6 – 2 with a loss to league leading Coldwater on the road, 38 – 44. However, Northwest fought VALIANTLY and had a 24 – 19 half-time lead – – – and led 33 – 31 after three quarters, thanks to a feisty man-to-man press. Coldwater played a zone defense the second half that slowed the Mountie offensive attack. However, the difference in the game was at the charity stripe with the Mounties making 2 out of 7 free throws, compared to Coldwater’s 11 of 23. Coach’s Awards go to Koby Castle and Landon Rambadt. Koby paced the Mounties at the offensive end of the floor and Landon did a solid job of slowing down Coldwater’s best player, despite giving up about 6 inches and 50 pounds to him.
The KMS 8th Grade Red Basketball Team defeated Coldwater 43 – 40, handing them their FIRST loss of the season, in a nail-biting THRILLER from tip to finish. Coach’s Awards go to the entire TEAM: Jermaine Buckner, Dylan Leutz, Ethan Anspaugh, Nolen Novak, Ian Weller, Ashton Golightly, Carson Cooper, and Joey Young. Jermaine was too much for Coldwater to handle as he dominated the scoring, including SEVEN three-pointers – – – the final “dagger” giving the Mounties a 3 point lead with 30 seconds remaining in the game. The difference, however, was Northwest’s STUBBORN defensive play holding an overall taller, thicker, more athletic, and faster Coldwater team to just 40 points. Leutz, Anspaugh, Novak, Weller, Golightly, Cooper, Young – – – and Buckner played OUTSTANDING TEAM defense, to get the win and improve to 6 – 2 on the season, trailing league leader, Coldwater by just one game.
