However they quickly bounced back on Saturday at the Hanover Horton Invitational with a 4-1 record heading into the final championship match against top ranked North Adams.
During pool play match the Mounties swept Hudson (25–13, 25–22) and Kalamazoo Christian (25–11, 25–20) but fell to Father Gabriel Richard (21-25, 24-25). Leading the Mounties during pool play action were Brooklynne Bevier and Henly Sleight with 16 kills a piece and Ella Bontrager with 14 kills. Mallory Anspaugh served for 19 points and recorded 64 assists in pool play. While Taryn Hendershot, Carsyn Sleight, Hope Garcia and Bevier led the defensive efforts with a combined total 63 digs and 97 serve receive attempts.
Heading into bracket play with a 2nd place seeding, the Mounties swept Hudson again (27-25, 25-13) and Camden Frontier (25-22, 25-23) to move to the Championship match against top seeded team North Adams Jerome, ranked 3rd in the Class D polls.
Despite their hard-work, never-give-up efforts the Mounties fell to NAJ (18-25, 17-25). Henly Sleight and Jozie Bontrager were a force to be reckoned with on offense recording 17 and 13 kills respectively in bracket play! Meg Moffitt was dynamic at the service line with 25 attempts for 13 points. Anspaugh handled the ball 392 times throughout the day recording 131 assists.
The entire day was a full team effort of intense play, support, encouragement, and celebration! The Mounties move to 23-8-3 on the season and will visit Battle Creek Pennfield on Wednesday for league play. 9/JV/V are back in action at home for an Honor An Officer event on Thursday starting at 5:00 pm.
