The Northwest 8th grade football team travelled to Mason to play the Bulldogs on a perfect night for football. The Mounties kicked off and opened the game on defense. Playing a stifling defense the Mounties kept Mason off the scoreboard the entire first half. The defensive front put a lot of pressure on the Bulldogs allowing the linebackers and defensive backs to make many big plays delivering some big hits. At the same time the offense started strong scoring three times in the first half. The offensive line played well pushing Mason around giving the backs room to run free and the quarterback time to complete big passes down field. At the half your Mounties were up 22-0.
The second half opened with Northwest receiving the kickoff. Both teams picked up the intensity and an already hard hitting game escalated. The team continued to move the ball but untimely penalties hurt the offense and several drives stalled out. Mason drove the ball up the field on offense to score a touchdown in the third quarter but that was all they would get as the Mounties regrouped and shut the Bulldogs down the rest of the game. As the clock out ran down to zero the game ended with the final score of Northwest 22, Mason 6.
Many players stepped up big again this week playing significant minutes as starters for the first time in their Mountie careers. Solid blocking on offense for most of the game led to three big explosive touchdowns. The running backs, quarterback and receivers did an awesome job of utilizing the blocking for many highlight worthy plays. Also, solid disciplined defensive play that kept delivering big hits all game long kept Mason in check for most of the game. This was another great team win with all players contributing to the victory.
Next up on the Mounties schedule – Home against Marshall on Wednesday October 4th.
