Your Northwest 8th grade football hosted cross town opponent Parkside on a very warm and humid night. Northwest opened the game on offense and had a tough time getting anything going against a very quick defense. The players eventually settled in and scored the first touchdown of the game to go up 6-0 after a failed 2 point conversion. Parkside came right back and scored quickly with a successful extra point attempt to go up 7-6. The team came together after the Parkside score and proceeded to score 14 unanswered points.
The second half opened with a Northwest kickoff and the defense held Parkside in check. The offense put together a sustained drive hitting two big passes to go up 26-7. Parkside made one more big push in the fourth quarter scoring a touchdown with a successful 2 point conversion to bring them within 11. After a failed onside kick attempt by Parkside your Mounties ran the clock out and the game ended with the final score of Northwest 26, Parkside 15.
Many players stepped up big this week playing their first significant minutes of their Mountie careers. Solid blocking on the edges sprang the running backs for a couple of long touchdown runs. Also, solid disciplined defensive play kept the Parkside running game in check for most of the game. This was a great team win with all players contributing to the victory.
Next up on the Mounties schedule – At Mason on Wednesday September 27th.
