Girls Junior Varsity Softball, Girls Varsity Softball · Varsity Softball 1-2 in Al Glick Diamond Classic

The Mounties participated in the Al Glick Classic over the weekend and came away with one victory and two losses.
On Friday, the Mounties met a very solid Homer team and came away with a well-played 3 to 1 victory. Mallory West earned her 15th win of the season against just four losses as she scattered eight hits, walked but two, and fanned six in going the distance. She finished off the performance by striking out the Trojans’ cleanup hitter with the bases loaded to end the game. Mal was backed by an errorless defense, sparked by Howe, Keeder and Taylor on the infield and Olmsted in the outfield who cut down a Homer baserunner at 3B in the 7th inning. Liz Hicks lead the offense with two walks and a single, and two runs scored. West collected two RBIs on a single and sacrifice fly.
On Saturday morning, the team met eventual Tournament Champion Napoleon, and lost a hard-fought 5-2 battle. West again was strong on the mound as held a hard-hitting Pirate team to just eight hits. Again, an errorless defense gave her great support with the infield of Wait, Taylor, Keeder, and Howe all playing extremely well. The offense struggled against strong Pirate pitching, getting just six hits. West and Sydney Vernier each had a double with Vernier and Nicole Keeder each having an RBI.
Saturday afternoon, the team faced Lumen Christi and had to battle from behind as the Titans took advantage of six walks and nine hits to build up an 8-3 lead, which despite a furious late Mountie rally, help up for an 8-7 victory. Sarah Gwinn lead the offense with three hits, Lauren Howe had two walks and a double, and Maddie Keller added a pinch-hit two-run single. Gwinn and Olmsted each had a double.
The Mounties now have a 21-11 record, and continue to wait to see if their 11-3 Conference mark will get them a share of the I-8 Championship.
Next action will be at home on Wednesday, a doubleheader against Morrice. This will be both Senior as well as Parent Day, and will be the final home action of the 2015 season.
