8th grade Football Defeats Marshall

The Northwest 8th grade football team was home the first Wednesday in October taking on the Redhawks of Marshall. The Mounties received the opening kickoff and opened the game on offense. The very first play from scrimmage went for a 94 yard touchdown as no Redhawk defender came close to slowing down the running back. The Mounties continued with dominating play on both sides of the ball. The defense stopped Marshall’s offense in their tracks while the offense blasted their way down the field on scoring drives. The defense scored their first touchdown of the season with an interception return for a touchdown in the first half. After a powerful showing with tremendous hustle and effort your Mounties were leading 36-0 after the first half.

The second half opened with Northwest kicking off. Northwest kept applying pressure on both sides of the ball all night long forcing a running clock almost the entire second half of the game. The defense held strong again and continued to shut out Marshall’s offense. With many Northwest starters on the sideline Marshall mounted one last drive as the game was winding down but still could not make it into the end zone against your Mounties. As the clock out ran down to zero the game ended with the final score of Northwest 50, Marshall 0.

Many players had tremendous games this week playing significant minutes making valuable contributions. Solid blocking on offense throughout the game led to three touchdowns. The running backs, quarterback and receivers did an incredible job of utilizing the best blocking of the season so far producing some highlight worthy plays. Every part of the Mountie team scored tonight with the offense only needing to score three touchdowns. On defense there were two interceptions returned for touchdowns, a fumble returned for a touchdown and a safety. Also, the special teams had some great blocking and a great return on a punt resulting in a touchdown. This was another great team win with all the players having a big hand in the victory.
Last game on the Mounties schedule – Away against Coldwater on Tuesday October 10th.
